As the temperature drops and summer swims become a distant memory, it’s easy to let your pool slip off the radar. It’s tempting to forget the pool even exists until next summer. Out of sight, out of mind… until you lift the cover in spring to find a swamp where your pool used to be.

Here’s the thing – Winter’s actually the perfect window to tackle maintenance, repairs, and upgrades without the mad summer rush. When the warm weather rolls back around, you’ll be ready to jump in without that last-minute panic.

Take Care of These Pool Essentials Before Next Season

  1. Thinking of Upgrading to a Sand Filter?
Winter’s a great time to swap out that cartridge filter. Sand filters are easier to maintain, handle higher bather loads, and give a deep clean with simple backwashing.
  2. Time for a Media Change?
If you’ve got a sand filter and it’s been 3–5 years, your media’s probably due for a refresh. Upgrading to Activated Filter Media (AFM) can boost filtration, reduce chemical use, and keep your water crystal clear. [Link to product]
  3. Is Your Chlorinator on Its Last Legs?
Whether you’re in need of just a new cell or the whole unit, winter’s the ideal time to replace it before the busy season kicks in. A new, efficient model will keep chlorine levels steady, giving you one less thing to worry about next season.
  4. Give Your Equipment the Once-Over
Pumps, filters, chlorinators — we’ll check everything for wear and tear before it becomes a problem.
  5. Thinking About Pool Heating?
Whether it’s a heat pump or solar, winter’s a smart time to plan your heating install. Get it sorted now, and you’ll be swimming sooner next season without the wait.
  6. Want a Hand Getting It All Done?
We’re more than happy to help with servicing, upgrades, or honest advice on what’s worth fixing and what’s not. Just drop in or give us a call.

Winter Pool Care

Caring for your pool throughout the winter is far less hands on than in summer, but your pool still needs some attention. Water levels can fluctuate with rain, frost, or snow and a completely idle system can invite algae or damage. We recommend running your filter 2–4 hours a day and keeping an eye on your chlorine and pH levels. You can also reduce your maintenance products like Polysheen and Algiguard to monthly doses—keeping the water healthy, just with less effort.

So, before you completely forget the pool exists, now’s the perfect time to give it a bit of love. Whether you need an equipment upgrade, a winter service, or just some straight-up advice, we’re here to help.
